Donaghadee is the closest point to Scotland; indeed on most days the Scottish coast is visible to the naked eye. This was a critical factor in the development of the town and up until the middle of the 19th century the town served as the major point of entry from the GB mainland to the island of Ireland.

Today the town offers a rich blend of historic and modern. The Norman motte, the harbour, Grace Neill’s Pub (reputedly the oldest pub in Ireland) and the parish church are evidence of the history of the town while the range of shops and eating places reflect modern day living.

The Donaghadee Tourist Information Point is located in the front entrance to Pier 36 pub restaurant. Brochures and guides are available covering visitor attractions, accommodation, festivals in Donaghadee and the surrounding area.

Donaghadee is a town with a population of some 8,000. It has a very rich history, having been one of the main ports of entry to the island of Ireland up until the 19th Century.
